What Is CBD ?
Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is one of the natural compounds found in the resinous flower of hemp plant with enormous therapeutic potential. It is one of many cannabinoids in CBD-rich hemp that has a variety of effects on our body’s endocannabinoid system. We actually have receptors and compounds in our bodies that interact with the compounds that naturally occur in hemp.
If you’ve been following the news, you may have noticed that cannabidiol (CBD) is becoming a modern-day panacea. Hundreds of thousands of people are using CBD to regulate their stress and moods, to treat insomnia, to fight runaway inflammation and more.
What does full spectrum means?
Full spectrum refers to the increased effectiveness of these products due to the different cannabinoids working synergistically with other valuables ingredients of the hemp plant such as terpenes and flavonoids that allows cannabinoids to develop their full potential. We call this: “The entourage effect”.
Full spectrum products are more effective than products that are only derived from the cannabidiol isolate molecule.
Is It Safe?
Today the therapeutic properties of the cannabidiol are being tested and confirmed by scientists and doctors around the world. A safe, non-addictive substance, the cannabidiol is one of more than a hundred “phytocannabinoids,” which are unique to hemp plant and endow the plant with its robust therapeutic profile. It does not produce any high or have any mind-altering effects whatsoever. Cannabidiol is natural and known to be non-toxic, with no known overdose levels.
What does THC-free mean exactly?
THC (also known as tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive component of Cannabis Sativa L. Industrial Hemp plant is classified as a Cannabis varietal that has less than 0.2% THC. In such small amounts, consumers using CBD (cannabidiol) products will not feel the psychoactive effects of the THC, it is only present to help increase the entourage effect.
How to Consume CBD?
Oils and tinctures are the the most popular way, however, is to administer orally as a sublingual tincture. The activated cannabidiol is directly absorbed into the bloodstream without being broken down or metabolized by the digestive system. The bioavailability of this method is from 20% up to 35%.
CBD capsules guarantees that the amount of CBD will always be the same for ease precise dosing. The bioavailability of this method is from 6% up to 15%.
And of course, the cannabidiol can also be added to food or beverages. Also, the dried hemp leaves and flowers are used to infusions. This is a great option for those with taste sensitivities, and/or for those who simply enjoy consuming their CBD in a tasty, delicious treat.
The cannabidiol can also be inhaled via traditional smoking methods (hemp dried flowers), or by vaporizing with a vape device. The bioavailability of this method is the highest from 34% to 46%, but with studies citing up to 56%!
For humans, several factors come into play, including one’s overall health and endocannabinoid tone, which are influenced by diet, exercise, sleep patterns, everyday stress, and genetics. The cannabidiol is best used as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Unlike most medications, the cannabidiol even if is a safe and forgiving medicine, cannot be prescribed at a certain quantity or frequency based on body weight and age. Yet, the cannabidiol has no known adverse effects at any dose, but an excessive amount of CBD may be less effective therapeutically than a moderate dose. So for humans, we recommend to start low, to go slow and increase the dose of CBD every 2 days by increments of 0.5 mg/kg. For pets we recommend starting with 1mg/kg and getting an veterinarian advice.
